Finished this a couple days ago. Bobby! A sarcastic, surly grumpus of a man. And he sure is awesome. And wisdomous.
I've been bummed out and lonely the last few days. Hug me, please. (But I swear to Bob, if you tell me to cheer up, I will clunk all your heads together.)
I started a new drawing a couple days ago, but I'm already bored of it, so I'm putting it aside to work on later... if I'm restless right now, it'd probably be better to do some smaller pieces that only take a day or two.

You know how much I appreciate your take on Bobby. It's so, so much better than mine, and I'm loving it! Holy crap those tiny details done with coloured pencils. My Derwents are too rough for such subtle and fine work. I think I need to expand my pencil collection a little more D8 C:
Since I was thinking of yours the whole time I was drawing this, I felt like I was putting too much detail into it, purely because your version seemed like the definitive version. Thank you, love.
YES. I could never draw so tiny with my derwents. They really are too rough. Although, prismas aren't supposed to be able to do fine work, either, which is why they also sell verithins which supposedly stay sharper because they're harder. (But I've never met anyone who liked the verithins, so. XD) As long as you're careful, regular prismacolors are fine.
I adore the coloured stuff you've done. Many people need the extra help, but it never occurred to me you needed smoother pencils. Your work's amazing as it is.
Sure thing although it's the same image, it's still completely different. That's what I love about the diversity of realism drawing and therefore I think your take on Bobby is perfect as it is!
Derwents are the closest things I could find to Prismacolors. How odd it may sound, prismacolors aren't available in most of Europe, so you're lucky you're able to buy and try them. Halfway this comment I began to search on the interwebs to see if maybe, just maybe, Prisma pencils are available over here but still no luck D:< such an unfair pencil world.
I guess Bruynzeel Design is close to Prismas, except they're super expensive. I'm ranting about pencils again. Sorry. It's a fetish :3
YES. Exactly. I don't understand how anyone can say doing realism means being a photocopy-machine, because even using the exact same reference photo, people's work can turn out so completely different. I love it.
It's possible your Derwents are smoother than mine, 'cause mine are the watercolour pencils I now use for highlights and for painting my dolls' faces. I don't know what it is about the pigment, but it's... lumpy. I hate that Prismacolors aren't available worldwide. I had to import my 72-set from the US, from dickblick.com, and I still get a few separate pencils from there once in a while. I think the set was about £50 including shipping. But I had the money, and I loved what my friends did with them, so I was dying to use them myself. I don't regret it. But it's still irritating that we can't just go to our local art store and try stuff out before spending all our money on something we may not even like. Pencils are supposed to be cheap, so beginner artists have a simple medium to start with. (I still think artists should get some kind of government grant, for enriching the country's culture. )
I love the way it looks, but I find it hard to apply techniques that are most often used in digital art, to traditional portraiture. Although it seems like a perfectly reasonable idea, I could never get it to work (until this style of drawing; which I enjoy so much, I'll be doing it for a long time).
HE SO IS. Ugh, I can't believe it's taken me so long to draw Bobby.
Wow, this is beautiful. Bobby is one of my favourite characters for Supernatural and this piece really does him justice. I love the washed out effect, it kind of gives it a thoughtful feel. Also, I love how you use blues for dark tones. Wonderful, simply wonderful.
I'm sorry you've been feeling down. I hope you feel better!
