"So love me now Hell is coming You kiss my mouth Hell is here
Little soldier, little insect You know war, it has no heart It will kill you in the sunshine Or happily in the dark...
Wake, baby, wake Leave that blanket around you There's nowhere else safe
I'm leaving this place But there's nothing I'm planning to take
Just you Just you..." - Bright Eyes.
I know it's a pretty choice of reference, but it has a lot more meaning. The screencap was from the end of Bloodlust (Supernatural season 2 episode 3), when Dean's reflecting on the hunt and wondering, of all the things they've killed, how many didn't deserve it. The lens flare was a happy accident while filming, and I think having a halo highlights how tired, beat-up and disillusioned he looks.
Reference - Supernatural screencap of Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester. Time - a week? Much, much quicker than usual. I rushed some parts, too. Tools- lines sketch on paper, photoshop, tablet. WIP shots so you can flip between them: [link][link][link][link][link] WIP deviation:
I owe people drawings and stuff. =_= I know this. I just keep getting distracted by all the pretties.
Oh my. Just going through your old stuff and I'm really amazed how much you have improved. I really burst out laughing when I saw this one, because my wincest-infected mind of course had me reading little soldier, little incest. xDD Oh well. You're such an inspiration.
And now i have to leave ANOTHER comment. God, this is so amazingly awesome. I bow to your artsy skills. ffffffffffffff- and it is Dean. AND I have been obsessed with that song since...I dunno. FOR A LONG TIME NOW! I love you. ♥ Thank you for being awesome.
I KNOW. I can't remember when I started obsessing either, 'cause I don't remember what date it started airing here. By now I'm using the US airing schedule, so I don't know how long it's been... but I don't remember life before, and I don't want to.
All digital. I took a screencap, printed it, made a pencil sketch (because I have to zoom out to see the entire image, and I prefer to work zoomed in at 200%... makes it hard to get anatomy and proportion right using just photoshop) scanned it, put it on a multiply layer and painted under it.
I don't know why, but at first I thought this was a pencil drawing, and I nearly flipped out when I saw that lens flare thing by Jensen's head. "WHAAAA HOW DID YOU DO THAT WITH PENCIL--?! ...Oh, it's digital! Hahahhh well, don't I look silly..."
Perfection. Utter perfection. How long have you been drawing?
Oh, man, I would love to have done this in pencil. XD I only did it digitally 'cause I figured with so many brown tones, it'd be much harder with pencil. Plus I'm really bad at low contrast faces; I tend to make my pencil faces black and white with as few tones in between as possible. And I didn't want to wreck the image by screwing with the contrast, because it looks so pretty as it is.
The short answer is always. I used to get awards for drawing in lower school, and in middle school I was the one who drew on people's notebook covers while they took notes for me... so I guess I was always good enough to stand out. But I never really tried realism until about four years ago. Until then, all I did was manga and western comic stuff, except for the occasional study. :3
Hahah, no way! I used to be that person too! I used to love drawing animals, but I didn't start drawing people until about high school. But given that my college experience isn't even remotely related to art, I haven't had much time for drawing lately--that might explain why I haven't gotten to the realistic part of realism yet. [sulks]
If you ever figure out how to draw and color lens flares or glowing things in general, let me know! I'll be trying to figure out on my end as well. ^_^
Thank you!! Really, you think it looks realistic!? 'Cause it had been aaaages since I painted anything in photoshop. And I couldn't get his right eye like the reference, even though I redid it a few times. u_u Stupid Jensen's eye. You suck.
